Relocating to The Villages, Summerfield, Lady Lake, or another Central Florida community can create a Special Enrollment Period for Medicare Advantage or Part D coverage in certain situations.
When a Move May Qualify You
- You permanently move to a new address outside your current plan’s service area.
- You move to an address that is still inside your current plan’s service area, but new Medicare Advantage or Part D options become available to you.
Important Timing Rules
If you tell your plan before you move, your Special Enrollment Period can begin the month before the month you move and continue for two full months after the move.
If you notify the plan after you move, the opportunity generally begins when you move and continues for two full months afterward.
What to Do When You Move
- Update your address with Social Security and Medicare.
- Check whether your current Medicare Advantage or Part D plan serves your new ZIP code.
- Compare doctor networks, prescription coverage, hospitals, and pharmacies in the new area.
- Enroll in a new plan if needed during the Special Enrollment Period.
A move is a good time to review your Medicare setup from the beginning rather than assuming the same plan will work the same way in your new location.
